Divin Gatera is a 22 year old volunteer tax preparer with Western Maine CA$H. A national from Rwanda, Divin is a junior at University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) pursuing a degree in Business-Economics with a minor in International Global Studies. After being referred to CA$H Maine by a friend, he has discovered that it is a great way to connect with and give back to the local community. Divin is also a student tour guide for the admissions office, and takes part in the Multicultural and French clubs on campus.
His experience with CA$H Maine and his studies at UMF have helped Divin experience new things and learn new skills. “This experience has helped me land an internship this summer at a company in their finance department. In the future I will also apply the one–on–one interaction to help answer customers‘ questions and have a good communication skills in any company I will be working with in the future” says Divin.
CA$H Maine is grateful to Divin for his help at the Western Maine CA$H site. As Bobbie Wheeler, the Western Maine CA$H site coordinator, says: “Divin’s commitment to the program and desire to learn, along with his genuine personality that made the clients feel at ease, made him one of our most valued preparers. We look forward to having Divin back next tax season as one of our tax preparers at Western Maine CA$H.”Divin was the first awardee of a Western Maine CA$H scholarship dedicated to student tax preparers.
